As a trivia guru, I am ashamed I didn’t know what a Bacon number is!! A Bacon number is the number of connections between a certain actor and Kevin Bacon in the trivia game Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. Don’t ask how my brain gets on these tangents. I was thinking of the connection between the two main characters on Better Call Saul and Bob’s Burgers which sent me down an internet loophole. Don’t judge. I already judge myself enough.
But back to the subject at hand: burgers!! My husband and I have a tradition of having pizza and watching The Walking Dead on Monday nights. The tradition continued when we had pizza and watched Better Call Saul. Well, one time we had burgers instead and Burger Call Saul was born! It’s a play on words and yes we are dorks.
Burgers are probably one of the easiest dinners to make but they are so easy to get wrong! You need just the right seasoning, just the right temperature, cooking surface, and time on the heat. Lucky for you, I have taken all the guess work out of great tasting burgers. And a huge shoutout to my husband for helping me perfect this recipe.
The key to great tasting burgers is the seasoning and the sear. You want the taste of a good cut of ground beef to shine through so you only want to lightly season it with salt and pepper. Literally just a light dusting on each side of the burger.
The other key is the sear on the meat. You want your cooking surface hot enough so you get nice browning on the burger. You know, the nice crust and golden brown color you get at your favorite steak joint (mmm steak) you want that same crust on your burger. The key to searing your meat is to put it on a not-too-hot grill and do not move it until it’s ready to flip. We have found the perfect time to be about 4 minutes.
Perfect seasoning, perfect temperaure, and perfect sear all lead to one thing: the perfect burger!!
